Case: Athletic students?
I have seen many students focusing on diets (keto, paleo, etc) and their body image while trying to say they're aiming for health and athleticism. Where does this come into play in an educational classroom? Should this kind of talk be banned, or utilized?

I personally think it is amazing when our youth is health conscious. In this day and age there is so much competition in sports. Our students have so much pressure put on them trying to earn sports scholarships. I worry about them over lifting, or exerting themselves to hard for long periods. With the health diet and such I would not ban the conversation at all. I would just have a rule that the conversation cannot disrupt class or instruction time. There is way worse things they could be doing or talking about. |

| Comments: I absolutely agree, even if their enthusiasm can be somewhat overwhelming. The fact that they have chosen to be more health-conscious, even if only for the sports, is a good thing. Just reminding the students to not let it interfere with their work/the class is important, but most students understand that. |

| Comments: I would have to agree. I think that promoting good health is important. However, it doesn't really have any place in the classroom unless it is relevant. I also think that it is good to pay attention to students overall health and wellbeing. Discussion of diets and stuff like that doesn't seem like any cause for concern, but when you notice a student partaking in behaviors where they seem to have unhealthy obsession with body image, I think that is the time to seek outside help. |
