Case: Racism
I have a student in class who calls the teachers racist whenever he gets in trouble for anything. How can I go about having him understand that is not the case, but his behavior.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
A solution would be to pull the student aside from fellow students and inform that what he is suggesting is extremely rude, not the case at all and he will be written up. Remind him of the rules of the classroom and inform him that a conference with his parents will be set up and he will be invited to join to discuss his present behavior and the creation of a behavior plan. I would also give an age appropriate lesson on what true racism is and how if effects all people. |

Comments: I dont think pulling the student aside and confronting them alone is smart at all |

Comments: I don't think it's appropriate to tell the student they are being extremely rude. Students need to be encouraged to recognize if someone is being racist or treating them differently. I think the teacher should have a discussion with the student and find out why he or she claims the teacher is being racist. Either the child will show some validity to the statement or will realize that the teacher isn't being racist. |

Comments: I don't really like this solution because through it, the teacher would not even try to look through the behavior and into the real reason for the outburst first. I think writing the student up before even letting them explain themselves would not truly resolve the issue. |

Comments: This is a slippery slope and I do not feel that singling the child out would be appropriate. |

Comments: Education is needed, not punishment. Sometimes kids are being kids and say things because they hear it or react because they get a reaction. never immediately go to punishments |
