Case: ASL interpreter
While in the classroom there is an American Sign Language interpreter. The ASL interpreter refuses to help pass out paper as it is not his job. This includes passing it out to his deaf student. What would be a good way to communicate why I would like some help?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Communicating honestly is the best place to start. Inform him of the specific needs you have in the classroom and ask him if he wouldn't mind helping. |

Comments: Maybe once in a great while, but his main focus should be the deaf student that could feel ignored because the interpreter is passing out papers. He did not go to school to be a teacher's assistant. |

Comments: It is not their job to help pass out papers. If they already said no, asking again is probably going to cause a rift between the teacher and interpreter. They are there for the students communication needs, not to help the teacher with classroom tasks. |

Comments: I dont think this is the best solution as the interpreter needs to focus on interpreting for the child. |

Comments: The teacher should not have needs in the classroom that they cannot handle by their job description. |

Comments: I do not think this is the best solution. As the ASL interpreter needs to be there for the student if not they might miss communicating to the student while doing another task. |

Comments: it is not required for an interpreter to pass out papers, as they are focused on making sure the student who is deaf or hard of hearing is able to understand the material at hand. i would ask for a teachers assistant if it is that necessary. |

Comments: It is not his job to help, his job is to his deaf or hard of hearing students |
