Case: Shy does not talk
There is a student that is so shy that they will not speak to peers or the teacher. What would you do to get the student to open up and start talking?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I have experienced a student in the past that was so shy she was almost mute. As long as she's doing well in the classroom and has some acquaintances I wouldn't push someone totally out of their comfort zone. |

Comments: By simply ignoring the issue it may make the child feel more isolated. I would absolutely not do this. |

Comments: I think that this solution is really helpful. A lot of the time it seems shy students are pushed out of their comfort zones and forced in social situations which can only make matters worse. I think that as long as the student is doing well there is no cause for concern. |

Comments: I do not think this is a good approach. If you don't teach the student proper communication skills then there is a good chance that they will not open up later. |

Comments: I understand where you are coming from, but I think it is important for students to feel comfortable speaking with their teacher and peers. The student should be given opportunities to talk and work with others. They shouldn't be forced out of their comfort zone, but should be given opportunities to push themselves as much as they want to. |

Comments: I would at least try to build a positive relationship and alternate ways of communicating in hopes that they would eventually take it up a notch. It's important to help students grow socially. But yeah, I can agree with not forcing it. |

Comments: This is a great perspective too! All students are different. |

Comments: I think that's great. A child being shy and quiet should not be considered a problem, that's just how some people are |

Comments: While students should be accepted for their true selves, I think encouragement to speak is not uncalled for, teaches life skills. |
