Case: It Must be Opposite Day
I have a student in my classroom who does the complete opposite of everything I say. He seems genuinely remorseful when he realizes his bad choice, but he continues to do this. If I tell him to walk, he runs; if I tell him hands down, he touches; If I tell him to sit, he stands. It's very frustrating and other students are beginning to copy him. What should I do to get him to follow instructions?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would definitely set up a meeting with an administrator and the parents. This child seems remorseful which means that they might have a psychological issue that makes them act that way.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I do not believe this will help the child. I think that going directly to administration and to the parent without trying alternatives first will potentially waste time instead of trying the alternatives and then going to admin.

Comments: I was thinking this as I was reading through the case as well. Even speaking with the student one-on-one before or after class might give the teacher some more insight as well.

Comments: I would start with just the parents and see how that goes before talking to administration

Comments: Before doing this, I would want to try some solutions in my classroom and keep a record of misbehaviors.
