In general, they read, write, and participate in class discussions in English at an average level for the class. However, they struggle with understanding the passages in their social studies and science textbook. Due to the schedule, I have to assign some of the material for homework. I do not speak or write their language. How can I help them better understand the content that they read? How can I help them to be more successful in the cont areas of social studies and science? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) Visuals are a major help for ELLs as images increase their comprehension significantly. I would suggest for you to find illustrations for essential vocabulary terms within each textbook chapter. I would also suggest for you to maybe find shorter reading material for your ELL students as reading entire textbook chapters may be intimidating.
