Case: Substitute problems
I once had a substitute come help in a classroom with ESE students who are extremely high needs. The substitute made a comment about the students being “vegetables” this made me extremely uncomfortable and upset. What should I have done in this situation. The sub was only there one day.

I do not at all condone this behavior and I think in this situation I'm not sure if you were the teacher or just an intern but I would of told either the head of the ESE department or at least brought it up to an administrator right away. This is a complete breach of our code of ethics as teachers as well as the equal opportunities act. In the least, you can just bring it up in a nice way saying that it made you uncomfortable and you weren't sure of how to handle this. |

| Comments: I agree that this should be brought up to leaders or administration. It is important that all students feel safe and accepted in their school environment, and having a substitute teacher who uses offensive language creates an unsafe environment for them. |
