  Case: Classroom size
Many areas of the country are facing classrooms that are literally busting out at the seams. A report at NEA two years ago discussed how schools in Georgia, in the midst of major funding cuts for schools, had no choice but to lift all class size limits to accommodate students with the faculty the school system could still afford to keep. How can you manage a class that is 30+ students?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
My suggestion is to get them in groups that are more manageable. Have every group complete a different task. This way it limits out of group conversations. Yes it will be more work and planning on you but it will lead to a more successful day. You can also rotate the students if you notice a group is not working well together.

Comments: I think this is the best solution to the unfortunate situation at hand. The maxed-out classrooms are very difficult but splitting them into groups for different tasks is a wonderful idea to keep things managed and orderly.

Comments: This allows the students to remain focused even though there are more of them in the room they are in smaller groups that each have a task to complete.

Comments: In light of the recent pandeemic, this is not a good solution. Students cannot be in groups and if we could we would not be able to rotate them to find the best combinations.

Comments: I agree, with so many students- things are likely to get out of hand unless you limit students to small groups. I think that group rotation is important too, as sometimes students don't work well with certain students or the opposite- where groups tend to get off topic and are distracting.

Comments: Yes, I agree this is the best solution. This will allow students to have to focus on their task for the group. At the end, we can go over each groups finding.

Comments: This is a good solution. Instead of having to address individual students you can say "Group 4 is ready..." or something similar. Have each student be accountable for something in the group. Each student is like a building block of the group, if one is not stable, the whole group is affected. Consequently, if one group is not stable, the whole class is affected.
