Case: Off topic / unrelated discussions
Every time my teacher puts the students in groups they just talk about topics unrelated to the class and usually always get off topic. How can she address this problem without singling these students out?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Making sure that the students understand the task and have enough work. Teacher also circling the class every few minutes and being mindful when forming groups.

Comments: I agree. Moderating these conversations are important. If the teacher makes sure to circle the classroom and assist students, I'm sure students would be less likely to have off topic conversations. However, if they do the teacher can remind them to stay on task.

Comments: This is a good idea. I would also give them 5-10 minutes to talk and get to know each other before the group starts that way they can get it all out. If it is still an issue then I would deduct points from the group.

Comments: Planning for groups is essential to classroom management. When you decide on student groups, you can control unproductive behaviors and place possible problem students in a group that will not welcome distraction and will remain on task. Combining this with circulation and proximity the chances of students getting off task reduces.

Comments: Setting circulation to disrupt conversations seems helpful. It could also be implemented for question checks at the end of each group.
