Two out of three of my mentees are best friends and are constantly talking in their native language. I have tried seating them farther from one another when we all work together, or having me or the third student sit between them. The teacher of the class knows they talk a lot, but only tells me to address it myself. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I would have a discussion with the teacher of the class and ask for strategies. Also, making it known to that group what your expectations are up front and sticking to them. If you give plenty of warnings and the talking still doesn't stop, maybe have one of the girls move away and do independent work on their own as a consequence since she was disrupting the group. That would be an example they remember.
