Case: Students do not bring pencils and forget to return when I loan them.
Our school policy (and district+state) requires that when students do not bring pencils, teachers are required to supply. In fact, in our state it's against the law NOT to supply a pencil in class if a pencil is needed to do the work. I am fine with this rule. However, I have couple of students who forget to bring pencils frequently and ask for a new one each time. They seem to lose them all the time. Do you have this problem? How do you deal with it? Any thoughts?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
A possible solution would be to utilize a swap technique. Students are allowed to borrow a pencil, however, they must give you something of theirs in return. Students can get their personal items back when the pencil is returned. This does require a management system to remember who gave you what but students are more likely to return the pencil if they gave you a cell phone or a shoe to swap. |
