Even when I give explicit instructions and directions, the student still will call out. This student does so to be funny and to get attention. How can I handle it in a way that doesn't draw attention to the bad behavior? I've tried positive reinforcement but it doesn't seem to work that well. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) In this situation, what I would first try is ignoring it completely and picking students to answer questions that have their hands up, even if the one students is yelling out the answer. I would then speak to the student privately letting them know that you can only listen to them when they raise their hand and that you wish you could listen to them because she or he knows a lot of the answers.
