Case: student assistance
Many ESE students need help throughout the lesson and independent activities. The problem is that they become too reliant on the assistance and ask for help at times I know they don't necessarily need it. How do I address this dependence?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Have the students do independent work and make sure they know that it is independent. Talk with them about trying their best and at the end, you will go over it together and they hopefully will not rely on extra assistance. |

Comments: I think this solution would ultimately be negative because students would not be able to ask genuine questions. While they may be overly-dependent, they are still ESE and need extra support. As an ESE teacher, I would not want to cut off student's ability to communicate with me. |

Comments: clarifying that the assignments are independent should help this problem. |

Comments: I also agree with this response, it is a good idea to get the student into appropriate and helpfull patterns. |

Comments: I agree independent work would be an effective strategy for this situation. Tell the student to try the work on their own first and that you will come over and check in with them when they have finished. I would also walk around the classroom and check in on all of the students and show the child you are busy helping other students as well. |

Comments: I do not think that this is an effective strategy for this situation as it does not help the students the way that they obviously need. I believe that having them possibly buddy up with another student in class to have them walk through directions but also give them the independence from the teachers. |

Comments: I feel like students could still need extra assistance so I don’t think this is the best solution. |
