Case: Not disruptive, but not attentive. Cellphones in classrooms.
You have students in your classroom who are not behavioral issues or sleepers, but they are not attentive to the lesson. The student would rather play on their cellphone or text friends then get engaged. How would you address this issue without turning the issue into a confrontational conversation? Is it worth addressing this student at the expense of losing the rest of the class?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would create an exercise or activity that required everyone to stand up and do something every time I saw a student on their phone. You might think that you will loose class time over this, but not if you make it subject related. (Like Have-You-Ever history edition.) Then your students will put down their devices, and re-engage with you.

Comments: This is a great solution because the class will soon grow tired of standing up to do this every time, which might result in students staying off their phone in class.

Comments: I really enjoy this idea! Even if students a reluctant to start with getting up and moving during an activity, they will hopefully look back one day and realize how fun that class was!

Comments: I think this is a great solution to the issue at hand, the physical activity movement with the content collaboration is a great way to get their energy out as well as have them learn and not be on their phones.

Comments: At first I wasn't sure about this suggestion but if implemented well this might actually be fun and just slightly discouraging enough to stop the behavior.

Comments: I don't think this would work if students are using their phones throughout the entire lesson. The lesson will be interrupted and the student can return to their phones when they sit down again.

Comments: I love this, another option could be to create a Kahoot where they can play from their phone but still be engaged in the lesson.

Comments: I do believe that this can be a good idea but I also feel like it would not work over time. Since the other students would catch on and see that they are only doing the exercise due to someone being in their phone.
