  Case: Divorce
Child is acting out due to the recent divorce of his parents. He says he is a bad kid. What can I do to help him?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would refer him to the guidance counselor, I don't feel as if it would be appropriate to discuss during class time. I would also reach out to the parents to let them know about their child's behavior during class.

Comments: Talking one on one with your students usually is more effective then sending them to the guidance counselor. They should feel comfortable with you. Building a relationship with your students is never a waste if time.

Comments: While it could be good for the student to speak with the counselor, that might not help and could make the student feel like they're in trouble. Talking to the student one-on-one and showing them that you care about them could make them feel less like a "bad kid." This could help the student feel better in the classroom as well.
