Case: Passing notes
How can I stop some of my students that are passing notes during my instruction?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Depending on the grade level of the students (in a K-5 setting) you could allow the students to have their own mailboxes. Students can write and distribute mail to the boxes, such as the last two minutes before lunch, the last few minutes before specials, and at the end of the day as they were completing their planners and gathering there belongings. Of course you would have to set some ground rules up, such as having ALL of your homework and daily work completed, you could not send anyone a message that would be unkind or hurtful, and no foul language could be used. The students would love the system. You can also use it as a teacher by leaving notes, saying things like "You did a great job keeping your math group on task today" or "I really enjoyed hearing you read your creative writing aloud today". |

Comments: I really like this idea. This is also a great way to help the children practice their writing skills. When they know they are allowed to put a note in a mailbox they will be less likely to pass them during class. Keeping it positive is also a great idea. |

Comments: This prevents further problems. It allows students to express their feelings while being engaged and completing work. It makes school interesting. |

Comments: I think this is a good solution. I like the idea of a mailbox system and the teacher using it for positive notes. I would try this solution. |

Comments: I think this situation is useful. The mailbox idea is great if you can get the kids to understand the rules surrounding the task. But, this may prove to be difficult. However, if all works, this is the best solution i saw. |

Comments: I like this idea as writing instruction for students but am not sure it would stop note passing during class. I think the solution to stopping note passing is to have clear rules and consequences for the behavior and be scanning and moving around the classroom during instruction. |
