Case: It Must be Opposite Day I have a student in my classroom who does the complete opposite of everything I say. He seems genuinely remorseful when he realizes his bad choice, but he continues to do this. If I tell him to walk, he runs; if I tell him hands down, he touches; If I tell him to sit, he stands. It's very frustrating and other students are beginning to copy him. What should I do to get him to follow instructions? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I agree that communication with the parent should be first priority, letting them know that you have your own curriculum that needs to be abided by and that this student is currently being insubordinate to you, the teacher. That being said, approach it with the thought of remedying the situation and be prepared to offer solutions! Provide positive reinforcements to the student when they do the right thing, as well as to the other students. |
