Case: Parents won’t acknowledge disability
What to do if a child has a learning disability and the parents refuse to acknowledge it?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
If the child has LD of any sort and the parents are refusing to acknowledge it even with proven testing and all other factors, then a meeting needs to take place. If this child has an IEP with the label of LD and it is acknowledged in the classroom in the form of modifications and accommodations, then it needs to be real and acknowledged by the parents. I know it is hard sometimes to admit the label of LD to their child, but acknowledging is the first step in this process. It sounds like to me that they are denying it entirely. |

Comments: Sometimes parents do deny it entirely because they do not want to have their child labeled. They may see it as an embarrassment. |

Comments: That could not be more true, the first step is definitely acknowledging it, you can do all of the testing you want but if the parent doesn't want to see it, they simply will not. |

Comments: I agree with this solution that acknowledging is the first key part. |
