It is was quite difficult to deal with parents who blame your for their child's mishaps academically. I once dealt with a parent who believed that I was the problem as to why their child was not being successful. The parent blamed me for their child's laziness when it came to completing work as well as my blaming me for their child's inability to comprehend while reading. I continuously assured the teacher that I was trying my best to help the student progress in the classroom. However, she always reverted back to blaming me. What would you do? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I would set up a meeting with the parent and another coworker or the principal for support, showing the areas the student needs help in but also showing where they are successful. I would tell the parent what you are doing in class to help the student and offer suggestions of things they can also do at home to help their child succeed.
