The vast majority of my students are ELL/ESOL students. Almost all of the student's parents are Spanish speakers that speak very little to no English. When we have to hold conferences throughout the year, we are often short staffed on translators. We are also encouraged NOT to use the students as translators. Depending on your grade level that you work with,you might consider duo lingo or investing in Rosetta Stone. I personally believe that watching latino/hispanic television with english subtitles is great in facilitating the understanding of a language if you take the time to dissect the words.
