I oftentimes wait to see if others know the answer but they simply expect him to raise his hand and answer so they never do themselves. Many times I tell the class that someone else must answer but I do not want to do this for the entire semester, how can I encourage more participation out of the others and teach the other student about self-control. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I would incorporate more group work where students work in random groups of 3-4 that way everyone gets a chance to speak. Once each group gets to share their ideas then you could bring it back to a whole group discussion and more people will be willing to share their ideas because they already voiced it to their classmates.
