  Case: Group Work
In a high school literature class we do a lot of reading. I've tried reading aloud to the students, having them read in pairs, having students volunteer to read, but I still have students that will not read regardless of the strategy. Any suggestions of strategies that work for students who won't read by themselves, don't pay attention when others read, and goof off in groups?

Something my English teacher often did in high school that helped my class really focus on reading was she had us act out the story we were reading in class. She would assign a character in the book to each of us, and even made it fun, by letting us choose from her theatre basket of costumes to build our character (you could easily thrift this kind of stuff!). Honestly, these turned out to be some sweet memories I have from high school, as my class looked forward to these in-class reading days and got a lot of laughter out of the experience. I would definitely recommend giving it a try!
