He is integrated into a reading intervention class with other students with LD or EBD labels. I have had students ask why he needs so much help and why he is special, and talk poorly about him and the validity of his label. They do this in front of other students and ask the teacher these questions. How should the teacher or myself respond? How do we stop the conversation without embarrassing the student? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) Use this as a chance to have a discussion about diversity, bullying, and acceptance. Involve everyone in the conversation and avoid using names.
