I oftentimes wait to see if others know the answer but they simply expect him to raise his hand and answer so they never do themselves. Many times I tell the class that someone else must answer but I do not want to do this for the entire semester, how can I encourage more participation out of the others and teach the other student about self-control. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) A solution would be to use the Think-Pair-Share strategy. Whenever you have a class, try pairing up the students so they can talk to each other. Most times students aren't confident enough to answer, but letting them pair up gives them confidence about their answers. Then you have each group share what they think by picking groups.
