  Case: Maintaining an authoritative position
As educators, it is difficult to not over impose authority over children, as it is difficult to not be their friends.

As an educator, I find this to be complicated. What solutions do you propose?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I found that children respond to teachers that are authoritative during lessons, but can allow their guard down during down time (recess, play centers, lunch time, craft time). I taught kindergarten so I had to be tough during instruction time but would hang out with the kids during their play center time, and draw with them. During lunch I would make sure they were all okey before going to take my lunch whether it was to open yogurts or help them grab their items during the hot food line. I wanted them to know I cared when I didn't have to. It was the way I could show them how human I was and was willing to be there at any time. I feel like that gave them the comfort that I wasn't mean or a dictator during lessons. It's easy to be tough all the time because most young children will take kindness for weakness but as long as there is a boundary during class time, they will have more respect for your authority.

Comments: I really loved this solution. I do think it combats the issue of students trying to be friends rather than listening to the lesson at hand
