As I am about to enter into my observation hours and internships, one thing I hope to learn from those, if not on here, is how to be a teacher that is likeable but also a teacher that my students respect as a figure of authority. What are the best ways to gain those levels of respect in regards to teaching methods(student and teacher based styles)? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) Setting clear boundaries at the beginning of the school year is a start. I've seen teachers who don't and constantly get trampled over by their students. The students viewed the teacher as a "friend" and not an educator. Doing fun activities or seeing which activities students like the most is a nice start. Maybe even doing a survey of what students would like. If at any time the boundary is crossed, I would kindly remind them that you are still their teacher and not their "friend".
