I have tried letting these students bring a chair to the carpet, but it is not helpful. Any suggestions for how to make carpet time better? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) During my observations in a second-grade class, the teacher had a timer going when the students were called to the carpet. They had a challenge to see if they could beat their time from the last time they came down to the carpet. The rules were that they had to come to the carpet quietly, find their spots, and make sure they were in neat rows promptly. So, having assigned spots and making it a game for them to sit quietly is a great strategy.
