  Case: Inappropriate Material
Jon is a great student in seventh grade who does all of his work and gets good grades. One day during silent reading you find that he is reading a book that contains inappropriate content. You ask him to put away his book and choose another from the classroom book shelf. He does as he is asked but you get a call from him mother a few days later regarding the fact that you had her son stop reading the book the was interested in during class. How should you respond to Jon's mother and is this a problem of ethics?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I would calmly explain the rules of the school and the classroom when it comes to appropriate materials for school. I would refer to the school's policy and offer to provide an alternative reading list. I would explain that if he wants to read the book at home, that is fine, but he needs to pick a more appropriate choice for class/school. This can cause concern if another student looks at it or if another adult looks at it, jeopardizing the position of the teacher. I would also contact admin as well, so that this incident does not go under the radar.
