Case: Student with recently divorced parents How can I help one of my 4th grade students whose performance seems to be affected by his parents' recent divorce? Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) This is a very common situation when students are dealing with issues at home. The first thing I would do is talk with the student privately to let them know that they can always come to you when they are upset or need to talk about something. If their grades continue to suffer after a while I would talk to the parents. They may not realize how much their divorce is affecting their child and hopefully they would want to help the situation in any way possible. |
