  Case: The Pretest
When Mr. Smith returns scored tests back to his students, he always engages them in a self analysis of their results. Students identify which learning targets they mastered on the test and which learning targets they did not master. What should Mr. Smith do with the students who did not master the learning targets?

Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Mr. Smith could create learning stations that focus specifically on the skill that students did not master. These learning stations can be done before school, when work in completed, or after school while waiting for dismissal. The learning stations should have some type of activity for students to practice, along with an activity assignment such as a journal entry or teacher created activity for students to apply their practice and learning. These activities should have an accompanying rubric that details what the student should do in order to achieve mastery. This information could then be analyzed to see who has made progress, and who needs further instruction.

Comments: I like the idea of targeted focus on the specific skill that students did not master. I believe that this could also be implemented during small group instruction. The use of rubrics is also a good component.

Comments: This solution would depend on the grade level. I can see how this solution would be helpful in my 2nd grade class but more difficult for middle and high school where the students are only in each class for a short period of time.

Comments: I like the idea of setting up stations to help students practice different skills they need to work on, and by using these in addition to the instruction each day to enhance learning. I don't know if I would have a strict rubric at each station that the students had to complete (depending on the age), but maybe just a sheet of generally what they need to know to help them to have an idea of what all they need to practice.

Comments: I love the learning station idea. As an intern, I noticed that time is not on a teachers side. There are times when small groups are not an option; however, learning stations ensure students interact with the content they have not mastered.
