  Case: Playground duty
At your school, teachers must rotate once every other week with playground duty, which involves being out on the playground during
lunch time and helping to monitor the activities of students on the playground. One day on your shift right before the bell is to
ring to signal the end of lunch recess, a student from your class comes up to and tells you that Jon ( another student from your class)
is standing over in the corner and has been throwing rocks, at both the building and in the general direction of other students. As you
walk over to where Jon is you, you see that he now has a big rock his hand. You first ask Jon to put down the rock and he refuses to comply – stating "you can't make me." What is next?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
If Jon refused to put the rock down and said you can't make me; I would then tell him, Jon this is you only opportunity to put the rock down. You have two choices at this point. you can either put the rock down now, and we can talk about what happened, or you can suffer the consequences and speak to the principal next. You decide. That's what I would say to Jon.

Comments: This is good solution. Letting him make the choice and giving a better outcome over another will usually work in this type of situation.

Comments: I absolutely agree with you. You need to let the student know that there are consequences for their actions. And he needs to make the choice on what he wants to do and how much trouble he wants to be in.

Comments: I agree with this solution and definitely think it would be effective. This is a serious situation since Jon could cause harm to another student. I think it is important in situations like these to be stern with kids and tell them the consequences they will earn, or simply that they will not be fun to help motivate them to do the right thing.

Comments: Some times students especially if they are endangering their lives or the lives of others need tough love or a serious consequence to get through to them to ensure it doesn't happen again. Easy solution to implement and will likely solve the problem.

Comments: I agree that you should first tell them to put down the rock and then if they refuse give them 2 choices. A majority of children will not want to visit the principal's office.

Comments: This solution is a good idea because they are given the warning about what can happen if they don't. I would first make sure others are away from him and also make sure a student lets another teacher know just to be covered. I would also ask for someone to get help because if the student doesn't put the rock down he will need to be walked to the office, which you might need help doing.

Comments: Nice solution. I would do this same thing in this situation. Giving Jon to make a decision and having him know the consequences to his actions.

Comments: This idea is the best out of all of them. Be careful around him, and notify other teachers of where you are. Talk to him first and involve other parties if needed.
