  Case: Pretest Motivation
In order to completely assess a standard Mr. Miller feels that he must pre and post test every unit with the same exam. Unfortunately, his students have recently recognized this pattern of pre then post exams and begun to bubble in answers on his pretest answer documents at random. This behavior is preventing Mr. Miller from truly understanding how his students are learning. What should Mr. Miller do to ensure his students are putting forth their best effort on unit preassessments?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
One way Mr. Miller could help students put forth their best effort on the unit preassessment is to offer incentives for showing work or explaining reasoning behind answers. On preassessments, there is going to be material the students are unfamiliar with, but students should be able to associate some prior knowledge to the question which is why incentives such as bonus point or candy, depending on the grade level, would be helpful.

Comments: An incentive program for pre-test is a great method to get motivation for assessments that do not count in the grade book. If students are working towards something it will add motivation to their testing.
