Case: Cell Phones During Standardized Tests
A student taking the Georgia Milestones Biology exam says that she does not have a cell phone when the teacher doing the proctoring comes around to collect the phones. However, later during the exam her cell phone begins to vibrate and an obnoxious "One Direction" ringtone sounds from the phone. What penalty should the student face?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Because the Georgia Milestones exam is bound by the Georgia Board of Education, strict rules and regulations follow. The proctor is required by the PSC Code of Ethics to report any testing irregularities to the proper authorities (generally, the administration or testing-site coordinator). The student's penalty should fit the 'crime.' Invalidation of test scores, detention, or suspension are all relevant and necessary penalties. |

Comments: I agree that the proctor must report this and the should be removed form the classroom and the cell phone should be removed from the student. |

Comments: Agreed. She should be punished like that because she broke the rule intentionally and Georgia Milestones exam is a standardized test with strict rules and regulations follow. |

Comments: I agree with this statement because the student did not give the phone up which lead to the teacher having to contact the Georgia Board of Education as they have strict rules that must be followed. The student might be in trouble with various scenarios listed above because she did not follow the correct rules. |

Comments: I agree with the solution. Many standardized tests list consequences if students cheat or use electronic devices. This student should be required to follow these penalties whether they be test invalidation, detention, etc. |
