Case: Can a student take the CRCT ...if he/she doesn't speak good English?
I have this student in my class who is from Colombia. He's a 6th grader, he's been in the U.S. since January. CRCT is coming soon, can he get tested? I feel bad for him, I speak Spanish and his teachers are constantly sending him to my room with papers for me to translate. Rumor has it... he's taking the CRCT with his class. Can this happen? Any Georgia teacher that can help me with more info on the proper procedure on how to handle ESL students during state testing.

Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
The testing rules for Georgia state that a non-English speaking student, ESL tested, is not to be tested in English, Social Studies, or Reading. The student can take the science and math tests. Allowing the student to test with his class is strictly based on documentation and information provided by the ESL teacher. The teachers should not be coming to you to translate papers as the student should be integrating into the English language. The only translation that should occur is for newsletters, contact information, and notes home to parents that do not speak English.
