Case: Parent reported student as "shy", what to do?
Tutoring a child after school tomorrow and his mother reports that he is often afraid to ask for help in the classroom. She said she has tried encouraging him to ask for help but has been unsuccessful. Does anyone have any good strategies to use so that he may be more comfortable in his classes to ask for help?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
It sounds like the teacher needs to develop a better bond with the student. The student will feel more comfortable asking questions if they feel like they can trust the teacher.

Comments: This would probably work. It's important that teachers get to know their students on a more personal level to show them that they are important and to build trust.

Comments: The teacher may have a good bond with all their students, however the child is just severely shy and too scared to ask something. It might not be a matter of trusting the teacher, but feeling that the kids closest to them will laugh when they hear the questions being posed to the teacher.

Comments: I like your solution, but I'm not sure it would resolve the problem. The problem could be because the student is in a larger group and is not comfortable with that.

Comments: Good solution. Just keep in mind that the teacher has to build a bond with multiple students and they all will take time.
