Case: Other Health Impairment and Reading
Jacob is a ninth grade student who receives special education services under the category of Other Health Impairment. When reading, Jacob continuously blinks and moves his head, skips lines, omits or transposes words, and loses his place often, even when using a place marker. He sits at the teacher's computer so he can follow along during PowerPoint presentations. Are there other ways to address this student's need? How?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Jacob's teacher could try and use a line cut out for him to use while he reads. This will prevent him from skipping lines, losing his place and skipping words. Also, his teacher may want to speak with his Special Education representative to place a listening device for Jacob to use. The teacher can pre-record a book, and Jacob could use the line cut out to follow along. This would also allow him to receive information from the book, while being accommodated based on his needs.
