I teach 5 sections of science (three 7th grade and two 8th grade classes) and am thinking of implementing this, but I'm not sure how effective it is. Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!) I love exit tickets. This is a great formative assessment. This shows me what I want to see very quickly.
