Case: Won't Do Anything!
I am dealing with a situation in my class where one of my students just sits at his desk all day and does absolutely nothing. It does not matter what I say or do. He just sits there and will not even pick up his pencil. What makes this situation worse is that I know he can do it and I know he is capable of great things! When I tested him at the beginning of the year he scored above average. What are some things I can do to help this situation? I have motivated and been as positive about this as I can. I have even made the parents aware and they keep saying her is like that at home as well.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I understand this situation can be tough. I would suggest creating a lesson plan that especially interests her. Call on her to answer questions or even give you an idea of games and activities or animals that she likes. Knowing this kind of background knowledge of her interests can deem for more participation from her in your classroom. |

Comments: I feel that you cannot modify a lesson plan specifically to fit the needs of one student. Every student in the class is equally important. I feel that the lesson could be modified in a way that will encourage interaction from the whole class and get the student involved as well without modifiying the content for one student. |

Comments: It's important to get to know your students' interests so you can incorporate them into the curriculum, but it's also important that you don't get too caught up in one student. She is not your only student. |

Comments: I think calling on the student may make them more resistant. |
