  Case: Help during test
Mrs. Chin is a fourth grade teacher who is struggling to help a low performing student with assessments. He always wants to sit right beside her to take a test. She usually reads him the material because she wants to test math skills, not reading. However, he has gotten used to this and refuses to test without her right there beside him. She must continue to monitor the other students, and help him too. What should she do?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Mrs. Chin will need to ween him off the close assistance when testing. Another solution would be to ask a paraprofessional to come in and help monitor or help the student with special needs.

Comments: Even though he has a low understanding, he is still able to understand some. If Mrs. Chin was worried she could have out the instructions in simpler English for him or incorporate both his native language and English in the instruction. This would have prevented him from consistently relying on her for test.

Comments: If the student will not be receiving these accommodations on state mandated assessments then the student needs to be weaned off of this assistance.

Comments: Agreed. A paraprofessional teacher is necessary in this situation to help that student while the teacher monitor the class.

Comments: I agree with this statement because the teacher will need to ween him off the assistance and make sure that other students are being help. I would definitely recommend getting a paraprofessional to assist.

Comments: I think that this is a great solution that helps the student and doesn't take anything away from the rest of the class.
