Case: Textbook Difficulty in Science & Social Studies
I have a two English Language Learners in my fourth grade class. In general, they read, write, and participate in class discussions in English at an average level for the class. However, they struggle with understanding the passages in their social studies and science textbook. Due to the schedule, I have to assign some of the material for homework. I do not speak or write their language. How can I help them better understand the content that they read? How can I help them to be more successful in the cont areas of social studies and science?

Almost all text books come in the form of a language alternative. Seek out your curriculum specialist for the school system to see if science and social studies texts can be order special until those students master the language at a higher level. |
