  Case: The Over-involved Parent
The mother of one of the students in your third grade class left twenty-minute messages on his voice mail every day. Listening to them consumed your entire free period. She would also show up at your school unexpectedly. You would walk into your classroom and find her waiting to speak with you. What actions would you take in order to prevent this happening?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
In my school, admin does not allow impromptu conferences with parents that have not been scheduled. Implementing this in the school would solve this problem. Keep data of how often you are responding to each message and present the data during a conference with the parent. Let her know that you are more than happy to respond to messages, but this often is disruptive to the school day.

Comments: In this solution I would also keep the information of when you have communication with her, and not allowing her to just walk back into your classroom.

Comments: I believe I would use this solution because it address the problem. Likewise, the teacher utilizing school policy that is already in place. Therefore, the teacher is not offending the parent, the school policy is. I like that the solution involved documentation. There a parent can provide to the administrators they were involved and handle the situation properly if need be.

Comments: I like this response too. You could always use the policies and procedures as a barrier.

Comments: I think scheduling meetings and not allowing parents to arrive unannounced and unscheduled is a great solution to the problem.
