Case: Big Bully
A student who is in elementary school is overweight. The student is often made fun of, called names and verbally abused. The teacher has gained information on this situation and wants to handle it as delicately and effectively as possible.
What should be her first plan of action?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
The first plan of action should be to have a conference with the parents and discuss what they would like to happen in order to resolve this situation. |

Comments: I agree. The teacher definitely needs to involve the parents. And maybe a counselor as well. |

Comments: I do not agree with this technique, the teacher is the person who sets the climate in his/her classroom. If it were me, I would implement a zero tolerance on any type of bulling from day one. |

Comments: I think that a zero tolerance needs to be introduced at the beginning of the class and needs to be strongly reinforced |

Comments: I think that's too quick to call. The teacher should first try to see if it can be resolved at school. Inclusion of the teacher effects the inclusion of the students with each other. There are many anti bullying activities you can do with children to help stop bullying. |

Comments: While this would be easy to for a teacher, I don't think this would work well for me as a teacher. Parents all have different methods of punishment. Leaving this decision up to the parents is fine for what they want to do at home but not for what should be addressed in the school environment. |

Comments: The parents should be involved no matter what, but parents have a mind of their own. The school should just handle it and then let the parents know what is going to happen. |

Comments: I would never do this! This is wrong! Contacting the parents of the bullied kid to ask what they want to happen is not going to resolve this situation. The bullies need to be held accountable by the school. |

Comments: This solution, although good in its idea, the process doesn't take care of the issue. The child could want it handled differently than the parent. |

Comments: I don't think this would be very beneficial at all. Also, we do not know who specifically is doing this. |
