Case: "R" rated video during class time
Your students have worked hard preparing for an exam, and they are asking that you reward them by showing an unapproved "R" rated video during class time. One of the students rents the movie and brings it to class. Previously, you had seen the movie and you think it is ok. Were any ethics principles violated?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Yes, ethics principles were violated. The teacher should have asked the administration for permission and sent home permission slips for All students to get signed. Proper protocol was not followed in this case.

Comments: I agree that proper protocol was not followed, but the teacher has not yet violated any codes. He did not show the movie yet, so he is still in the clear.

Comments: Even though I thought that no ethic principles had been violated yet, I agree with your response. Even if the teacher thought the movie was okay for the students to see, he or she should have gotten approval from the school administration. I also like how you added getting the parental consent form because its important that parents also know the type of content being presented to their children in the classroom

Comments: I believe you were right, protocol was not followed and the teacher had not talked to administration about the movie.

Comments: This would have been ok if the students were all 17 or older and if permission slips were signed by the parents if the student is 17 or by the student if the student is 18 or older.
