Case: Take Your Time Young Man
I have a student that completes reading assessments or assignments in about 10 to 15 minutes. It is obvious that the student is not giving his best effort due to the time invested in the assignment and the grade received. I have looked at his Lexile level and the assignments are not too hard. How do I get this student to take more time with completing reading assignments or assessments?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I have several students that rush through assignments as well. I often find that these students, when they don't understand how the information applies to them individually, don't care what they score on the assignments. I have pulled these students aside individually and explained or had them explain to me how the information is relevant in their own life. Once they grasp an understanding of this, they tend to put forth the effort needed to complete the assignment. This may not work for every student, but it has worked for some.

Comments: I think that this solution is great because you have experience with this problem. I find it very helpful to talk to other teachers who have had the problem that I am currently having, and then gathering what has worked for them in the past, and then just finding what option works best for that student.
