Case: Take Your Time Young Man
I have a student that completes reading assessments or assignments in about 10 to 15 minutes. It is obvious that the student is not giving his best effort due to the time invested in the assignment and the grade received. I have looked at his Lexile level and the assignments are not too hard. How do I get this student to take more time with completing reading assignments or assessments?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
In order to get this student to take his time you are going to have to provide positive reinforcements. It will be helpful to set something in place to reward this student for performing well on assignments. It does not have to be something extraordinary but a small piece of candy can work wonders.

Comments: I agree that a small reward could be helpful. However, it shouldn't be too big because other students won't be getting this reward.

Comments: I like the idea of a reward. It is hard for students to read something that they aren't interested in. If they have a reward they would more likely be willing to read and understand. Great solution.

Comments: I fear that the student will expect the candy or reward, and it will only temporarily fix the behavior. I fear in other classes or future classes where he is not receiving candy, he will continue to be lazy.
