  Case: Accelerated Math
At Newberry Elementary School, Accelerated Math is a differentiated program that has been purchased to increase student success in math. Teachers are expected to use this program for 30 minutes daily. Mrs. A thinks this program is truly valuable, but the way they are expected to use it is a train wreck. Students have to scan the work in, the scanner doesn't work all of the time, Mrs. A is expected to stop and reteach the students who perform low, the students make careless mistakes, etc. This tool is one way for Mrs. A to assess her students, but she doesn't feel that it gives a true picture of student understanding due to things going wrong during implementation. How can Mrs. A use this program more appropriately to truly assess her students learning?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
It appears that there are several problems with the program that need to be addressed by academic coaches or someone that is more familiar with the program. If the program worked properly, and the scanner was reliable, it would probably be more effective without any other changes needing to be made. I would address these problems with the academic coaches and administration to make them aware of the issues you are experiencing.

Comments: This is something that needs to be solved by someone who is familiar with the program. If the program does have a lot of benefits it is important not to abandon it and figure out a solution to make it run more smooth.

Comments: I do not believe that fixing or getting a new scanner is the solution to this problem. Instead I think they should talk to the program managers and see if they can change how the assignments are done. Getting a new scanner just means that the teacher has to wait for students to scan the documents.
