  Case: No More Copiers!!!
Change Middle School has just went through it's 3rd change since the start of the school year. This particular change involved administration and resulted with a new principal. Week 1 the new principal announced that her vision is to be a No Copy School and plans to do away with all copiers and printers. A big focus of ELA is annotating or "touching" the text. How will my students be able to touch the text if I can't print/copy the text?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
One way would be to use digital texts. These allow you to "highlight" and annotate without actually making it permanent. Students would simply log into their accounts and have access to their notes. However, when a new student adds the book to their account it is free from annotations and ready for them to use.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: This solution works if instead of copiers and printers the principal finds a way to make sure all students have the technology needed in the classroom to use digital texts. This can be very pricey and will require all teachers and students to become more tech savy.

Comments: This is an excellent idea, but I think the school should find a way to accommodate students who do not have access to a personal electronic device in order to complete the assignments electronically.

Comments: I agree. If no copies or printers are allowed at school I would assume that every student would have some type of e-reader or tablet device. It is possible for them to highlight text and write their own comments using the device.

Comments: This solution would work perfectly! I use ebooks myself, and the highlighting/ annotating options are so useful. It also make them reusable for other students.

Comments: This is a perfect solution as most schools have laptops, ipads etc even a lot of the poorer schools have some kind of computer equipment these days that can be used with digital texts

Comments: I think that this solution is pretty good since it does mention how technology is moving to be used instead of traditional textbooks. With digital textbooks the students can highlight the text and make notes on the side to help them with their assignments. I also think that an ELMO could be utilized in the classroom when the teacher is showing how to work out assignments, textbook pages, or even worksheets that they can work out the problems too but don't need to write on exactly. I think this solution is pretty good overall.

Comments: I personally have never heard of this but find it convenient and easy to help the students and teachers if they can not use a copy/printer machine when it comes to lessons. I also like that you can write on it and changes are not permanents so you can use it over and over again.

Comments: Yes; if this is the goal for the school, implementing such technology is a must. Plus, this tech sounds really cool!
