Case: No grade lower than 60
In this school system, teachers are not allowed to give a student a grade lower than 60. How do you feel about this grading policy? It is claimed to be research-based.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
I do not agree with this grading policy. Students grades shouldn't be boosted up to a 60 if they are not meeting the standards.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) Yes
The suggested solution is relevant to the case Yes
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement Yes
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue Yes
The suggested solution is original Yes
Comments: I agree. How are students to know their own progress if they can only get as low as a 60? I think maybe correcting the problem and stating why they got the grade they got would be more helpful than just giving them a grade they don't deserve.

Comments: I agree with this statement because students need to know how they are doing so they grades shouldn't be moved up higher to 60 if they aren't meeting the standards. It is vital that the school systems sticks to the grading policy.

Comments: I agree. If students know that they can not do their work and still receive what is considered a passing grade in some schools then what is their motivation to do the work?

Comments: I completely agree with you. Grades should be accurate measurements that determine where a student is at- they should not reach the minimum at 60.

Comments: How can we really assess a students knowledge of the standards if we cannot grade according to actual scores... This policy makes no sense.
