Case: Writing for college and career
Mr. Kitchens, a high school English teacher, has a dilemma with his second period students showing little motivation in developing and improving their writing ideas and organization skills. This eleventh grade group has poor grammar and conventional skills. Additionally, in a technology driven world and weak skills, the insufficient engagement in the writing process results in half of the class failing the summative essay exams which on is required for high school graduation.
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
Mr. Kitchens may try to engage students more in their writing by asking students to write about topics which may be of interest to them, have students produce a class newsletter, or even have students work with a peer to help each other improve their skills. The teacher should hold conferences with each student or allow them to conference with a peer before, during, and after a writing assignment.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would do exactly this. Having the students write about topics that interest them is always a great idea and students enjoy the work if it is on a subject they enjoy.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would exactly do this. Allowing the students to select a topic (within reason) that may be of interest to them, having them work with others to improve skills and holding conferences with each student all good ways when used together will result in marked improvement.
