  Case: I Don't Fit In
I have a Hispanic student in my class who struggles to get along with other students. He is constantly getting into arguments with other students and always thinks that everyone is against him. I have spoken to him about this, but the problems still continue. I'm not sure if his difficulties come from cultural differences or if he really does not get along with others. At times I think he gets defensive because he doesn't understand what is going on. How do I handle this problem?
Solution: (Rates are posted for this solution!)
As a teacher, you can implement group assignments and projects. This can force the students to work together to get a job done.

The suggested solution is respectful of the individual (student) No
The suggested solution is relevant to the case No
The suggested solution is reasonable (easy) for the teacher to implement No
The suggested solution is likely to solve the problem/issue No
The suggested solution is original No
Comments: I feel that forcing kids who do not normally get along to work together may only start further problems. Perhaps if there was some discussion between the students beforehand to try and resolve their problems, working together would be good, but I do not think that just throwing them in together would be effective.

Comments: This is not enough to create meaningful friendships and forcing the student to be in groups with others who may argue or push him away may only make the problem bigger.

Comments: If I were in this situation, I would not use this solution because first of all, you should never force a student to do anything (and you should never have to either). In addition, I feel that there are other measures that can be taken instead of forcefully trying to get the student to work with others collaboratively making him feel uncomfortable.
